this report is on a migration of a steinman pin into the posterior com department of the calf. it was used to fix a greater trochanteric osteotomy in a total hip arthroplasty. the puzzling note is how this metal piece passed through the anterolateral compartment of the thigh to the posterior compartment of the calf. accord ing to our literature review, migration of fixation pins through the kne...

Fig. 1. Computed (CT) tomography showed migration of the pin into the descending aorta with the result of hemothorax. The pin was extracted via left thoracotomy by pulling out from the part of needle which was out of the aorta, immediately after CT evaluation. Fig. 2. Computed tomography showed migration of the pin outside the left main bronchus into mediastinum 1 cm distal to the carina. The p...

Alpha-pinene (PIN) is a monoterpene derived from essential oils of plants. Some biological activities are associated with PIN, such as antibacterial, antihypernociceptive, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. This study was performed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of PIN on the leukocyte behavior through in vivo and in vitro leukocyte migration. In the cell viability assay, PIN (3, 10...

We report a case of intrathoracic migration of a Kirschner wire used for inveterate anterior right shoulder luxation penetrating the spinal canal through the right Th8 nerve root foramen. The migration was asymptomatic. The treatment involved removing the pin via posterolateral thoracotomy. The postoperative course was uneventful. Intrathoracic migration of Kirschner wires should be expected in...

We report a case of migration of a Steinman pin to the innominate vein. A pin was used to fix a shoulder separation but a broken piece was left unattended at the time of removal of the pin. How this piece made its way in to innominate vein is puzzling. To our knowledge migration of fixation wires to the innominate vein has not been reported previously.

PURPOSE To report the outcomes of modified Rush pin fixation for proximal humeral fractures. METHODS 42 men and 20 women aged 19 to 94 (mean, 64) years with 2- or 3-part proximal humeral fractures underwent reduction and fixation using the modified Rush pin technique. 11 patients died from reasons unrelated to the surgery. RESULTS Of 40 (out of 51) patients completing a subjective functiona...

BACKGROUND Intramedullary fixation of comminuted mid-shaft clavicle fractures has traditionally been employed with satisfactory clinical outcomes; however, pins with smooth surfaces may protrude from the bone and are prone to migration, while some threaded pins are difficult to remove post-operatively. The aim of this proof-of-concept study was to develop and evaluate the biomechanical strength...

We report the case of a 49 year-old right-handed chef with left shoulder trauma occurred during a football game. The diagnosis was fracture of the distal quarter of clavicle. The patient underwent osteosynthesis using cerclage wire and splint . The patient suffered from pain and hypoesthesia with a deficit in C8-T1 interosseous territory; radiographs objectified pin migration to the cervical sp...
